Hi, I’m Jack.
For as long as I can remember, storytelling and systems design have been twin obsessions — designing games, drawing schematics, writing stories, and animating since I was a kid.
Solving complex problems and finding elegant structures for my observations are some of the most personally-rewarding outputs of my creativity.
I have endeavored to find opportunities to practice these pursuits in most aspects of my life, and I feel fortunate to have found success at building a career which hews so closely to my passions.
A note on integrity and accountability:
I believe that a business is more than its revenue, and that those in positions of power have a responsibility to serve the best interests of the people who keep them there. I conduct myself with honesty and integrity and expect and appreciate the same qualities in the companies, clients, and coworkers I choose to work with.
Fair wages, livable hours, equal pay, diversity, environmental responsibility, employee safety, common decency, and transparency should not be optional.
Design Leadership.
Design is ever-evolving, and so too must its practitioners be. I find that providing expertise upwards and advice and guidance down the chain leads to a unified, productive, and long-term team. Design encapsulates much more than the interface, and I prefer to function outside of departmental silos, building a group of product devotees from various fields who can collaboratively imbue the work with relevant and innovative features.
Customer / Business Focus.
Client and customer needs drive the product, and are the focus of most UX teams, while business needs are too often left to others. I strive to close this gap by keeping both sides engaged with the decision-making process. Designing for success is crucial work for everyone on the payroll.
Deep Product Knowledge.
Familiarity with the product is not enough for a good designer. I work constantly to make sure I understand all levels of the architecture of my products, and can explain the intricacies of how and why a system has been built. This can be utilized to save time and effort, and flesh out core systems with new functionality.
